ps2 online
this weekend rachel got the sims: bustin’ out for ps2 and it happens to be an online compatible game. well, i have had the network adapter for quite some time, but never took the time to figure out how to actually get it to work. last week i started looking around the internet for ways to get the network adapter to work with a router (i have my ps2 hooked up to a wireless bridge and then to my router) . everything i saw on the inernet said to put the ps2 in the dmz, but that wouldn’t work for me because i had my web server on the router also, and putting the ps2 in the dmz would send all traffic to eightfivetehree.com to my ps2, and we all know that is not a webserver. so, finally, the solution was to route all connections to ports 11100 – 11199 (tcp) to my ps2. also, i had to route some udp ports to it also, but i don’t have the headset so i don’t think the udp ports really matter.
you don’t think the udp ports really matters?
well, udp is used best is cases such as streaming media, because if packets (little parts of the media file) don’t arrive in time, it doesn’t matter (because that part of the song has already been played). so in the case of the ps2, upd is used for voice chat and if a udp packet doesn’t arrive, who cares because that part of the sentance has already been spoken. so, since i don’t have a headset for voice chat, i figured udp wasn’t necessary.
I’m learning something new everyday
I’d still sleep better knowing that my packets were arriving on time.
