linux and itunes

this is something that i have been wanting to do for quite a while. we’ll see if it ever happens.
currently, i share all my music on my linux box via samba and then mount the share on each mac. it takes quite a bit of time and isn’t too reliable. if i can get the itunes sharing thing to work, i will be very pleased.

The ticket to doing this is to NFS export rather than using SMB. It’s a little more reliable, and iTunes will dig it (it’ll even create the mount for you if it’s not already mounted, later after you reboot)

i have tried NFS exports before and not quite sure what went wrong. i am not sure if i had them exported from my linux box properly. i will have to look into it a little more.
