Wired: ‘California’s Senate voted on Thursday to support a bill to limit a new e-mail service by No. 1 Web search company, Google, over concerns it could threaten the privacy of users.’
This is so stupid. I don’t think the state of California should do this. If a user is afraid of having their privacy invaded, they shouldn’t sign up for the 1GB mail service. I don’t think it is fair to limit how Google does business. While I don’t disagree with some of the restrictions past, and as a result of them be more inclined to sign up for the service, I think Google has the right to offer any service they choose. If the service invades in to the privacy of its users too much, the market should determine that, not the lawmakers.
agree – assuming i understand what google is doing – i think they are sending adds based on key words in your email – but not really reading your email – or is it gmail?
