Firefox Quicksearch

I have started using Firefox instead of Safari as my main web browser. I have used Firefox off and on for quite a while, but couldn’t quite make the just, there was always something I liked better about Safari. This morning, while playin around with my bookmarks in Firefox I think I found the feature they will help me make the switch for good: Quick Searches. Quick Searches allow you to give a bookmark a keyword and format the URL properly to quickly search on external sites. For example, I just added a Quick Search bookmark for Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=%s

They make Firefox for Mac, Windows and Linux. I suggest you make the switch, as well.

But for the non-power user, what is the benefit?

I always loved Google. Are you telling me that there is something better then Google? I will just have to wait for my birthday!

I’m always a bit leary about adding new programs to my computer, when I already have the basic on on there. We bought Macafee and downloaded it, then the old Macafee has been giving us a headache about updates.

it is not necessarily a power-user browser. it just has some features that make surfing the web easy. The quick search doesn’t replace google in any way. you can actually set up a quicksearch for google. you can just use quicksearches for other sites as well, such as weather.com.
