Hard (Drive) Question

The hard drive on my iBook finally bit it the other day. Sometimes the computer starts up and when it does the hard drive starts making some pretty crazy noises after a few minutes. I guess it is finally time to dismantle the iBook and install a new hard drive. Does anyone know if it takes a special hard drive? I looked up the new iBook specs and it says it is an ATA/100, which is normal, right? Also, why do laptops always come with 4200 RPM drives. Is there any reason I can’t put in a 7200? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty sure the speed is kept slower to keep the heat down in such a small box.

The lower speed drive uses less power too. Apple uses some kind of rubber shock dampening mount for the HD but I don’t know if it attatches to a standard drive frame or not. Sorry I can’t help more.

The drive you probably want is a STA-MACHD/60
