I got back from San Francisco on Friday afternoon and met my dad in town. He was in Seattle for some meetings and made the drive south to spend some time with us. I was under the impression it was about a six hour drive, but it turns out to only be about four and a half hours. Definitely a drive Rachel and I will take sometime soon.

My plane was a little delayed getting out of SF, so I didn’t get back to Eugene until about 3:00. My dad picked me up and we went to the Nike store for some new running shoes. We then picked Rachel up at home and went out for the best pizza in town, Mezza Luna, and walked around downtown a little. Since my dad wanted to take part in all our weekly traditions we took him (well, he paid, so really he took us) to Price Pückler’s for the weekly special, Euphoria hot fudge sundaes (not to be confused with Tuesday’s regular hot fudge sundae special).

We took my dad to the Saturday Market to show him another weekly tradition. I promised there would be six different booths selling tie-dye apparel, and was proved wrong. There was at least double that. After the market we did something new. We climbed Spencer’s Butte. Spencer’s Butte is a 2,000 foot butte south of Eugene that overlooks the city to the north and mountain ranges in all other directions. The picture above was taken with my cameraphone of Rachel overlooking Eugene. It was about a 1.5 mile hike to the top and in some spots was pretty difficult. I think my dad found it even harder since he got up and ran 3 miles in the morning before the market. There was just enough time to have a little World Series party before my dad had to get back to Seattle for an early morning flight the next day.

I had a lot of fun showing Dad around town and look forward to our next set of guests, Rachel’s parents, for Thanksgiving.
