Rachel and I went to Rent at the movie theater last night. I have never seen the play and only remember the 525,600 minutes song because my mom has the soundtrack to the play and when she first got it Chelsea kept that song on repeat. The movie wasn’t bad, a little long for my likes, but not bad (I think this proves, however, that I don’t love every movie I see, as some accuse).
Before the movie started I got a little worried when one of the pre-pre-show slides warned that in the event of fire, walk (don’t run!) to the nearest exit. I didn’t think too much of and went back to racking my brain on questions like, ‘Which of the four brothers is a member of the musical group Outkast?’. On a side note, part of the fun of this theater came from them not giving the answers to their questions. A few slides after the first fire warning was a second warning about what to do in the event of a fire. I’d never seen a fire warning before in a theater and started to wonder why they were so worried about the place burning with me inside enjoying Rent. After seeing the pair of fire slides another eight times before the pre-show entertainment began and then seeing another special fire warning during the pre-show roller coaster ride (trust me, it feels like you really are on the coaster), I was sure I would be running (not walking!) mid-show for the nearest exit. Alas, nothing caught fire. Finding the fastest route out of the theater with respect to distance, traffic pattern, and possibly having to carry Rachel in the event that smoke rendered her unable to walk proved to be a waste of time.
On a serious note, the movie theaters here pale in comparison to the theaters back in KC, specifically the one that my future brother-in-law works at. The one we went to last night didn’t even have stadium seating. I am looking forward to the end of the month when Sammy can sneak me in to King Kong, Narnia and Walk the Line.
I am sure glad you guys didn’t catch on fire. I guess we didn’t go to the theatre that you catch on fire, when we went to see Harry Potter.
Yes, the fire theater is different than the one we took you guys to for Harry Potter. The one we took you to is the nicer theater, I’ll have you know!
I’m very happy that you and Rachel survived your trip to the movies!
You never really wrote what I am really wondering about your trip to the movies…
WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE MOVIE?
We went with your mom and dad on Sunday (we had already seen it, but they hadn’t).
We all loved it.
