Easy Photo Uploading
Photo uploading in WordPress 2.0 has gotten much easier. You can now upload photos directly from the “Write Post” page, rather than on a separate page like previous WP versions. There is a little bit of a trick to get the photo uploaded the way you probably want it. I might not be doing it correct, but this is what I have figured out so far:
To upload a photo to be used in your post, scroll down to the Upload section and Browse for your photo to upload. Add a title and description if you want and click “Upload”. The photo you chose to upload should appear under the “Browse” section. Click on the photo, click “Using Thumbnail” which then changes it to “Using Original”.
Then click “Send to editor” and the original image is sent to your post. The only problem is that the image is not sent fullsize to the editor.

You then can click on the insertest image and grab the lower right corner of the image. Drag it to the right and the current size shows up. Just drag the image to the width of the original image. Do not drag the image to a size larger than the original. It will appear distorted.

That’s it! If anyone knows of an easier way to get the original image to its actual size please let me know. The image I used for this demonstration is of Rachel and my cousin’s son, Gabe (Rachel just loves Gabe) and is posted below.

I actually went to the WordPress forums (!) to see if there was a solution for this, and the guy who posted about it had rigged a work around that involved code (it seemed to me), but he seemed dissatisfied with it. I’ll bet WordPress will make this whole process easier soon.
BTW, Thanx!
Okay, I’ve tried this, and it worked for me, but why does WordPress work this way? Is there some benefit to having the photos appear smaller?
Yesterday when I was making the post with all the pictures it took FOREVER to upload. I would have to do other things while waiting. Even resizing the picture took a long time so I finally quit. Right now my blog does not seem to be working right. The links on the right hand side do not show up and the pink and black lines are all over my page. Do you know why this is? I was going to call you this weekend if my blog stays the same, so I’ll ask you again then and explain it better! Thanks Trav!
You know what I’ve noticed is that there seems to be a seriously slow load time on the pictures of your family’s sites lately…is that because of the photo upload thing?
P.S. I’m testing Wordpress right now. I think that my permanent site will be topfivedesign.com/shane (for my blog at least)
