The Last Week

Rachel and I have just about made it back from our week back in Kansas City for my sister’s wedding. We had a fun week that included non-stop action and getting to see lots of friends. The week of fun started Wednesday night when the bride and groom picked us up from the airport. We got to see Chelsea and Scott a lot before the wedding.

Thursday we got to have lunch at the best restaurant in the world. While the girls picked up their dresses, my dad and I picked up our tuxes in the afternoon and went to a few places in town picking up A/V supplies. Chels and Scott made a music video and my parents showed it a few times over the course of the weekend. The A/V supplies were needed to make sure we could get the video to play. later that evening, the two families got together for some pretty tasty desert. I had met some of Scott’s relatives before, but it was nice to meet them again. This was also our first opportunity to see some of our family (but certainly not the last).

Friday, we spent the afternoon over at Rachel’s parents’ house. Rachel made some cookies for Chelsea’s bachlorette party that took place later that evening. We also had dinner with the Johnson side of my family that night. Later I went to Scott’s apartment for a little Texas Hold’em poker. I didn’t win.

Saturday was the rehearsal and dinner afterwards. The dinner was excellent. Jack’s Stack is one of my favorite KC meals. The rehearsal went fine.

Sunday was the big day. My dad and I were the first to get to the Clubhouse on Baltimore. We arrived around 11:00 am for the 4:00 pm wedding. It took about an hour to get the van unloaded and video equipment setup. We were done just in time to help carry even more equipment up. The time was kind of a blur, but after a few hours of carrying stuff up, we were able to relax for a little bit. Once the other groomsmen arrived, we played some more poker. We were only playing with candy, since it was all I could do to find cards, but I was the big winner.

The ceremony was very nice. Scott, Chelsea and my parents did a fantastic job with all the planning that went into making the wedding great. We tried to gather all the photos that were taken at the wedding and so far have gotten over 1,000. I am sure my dad will post most of them to flickr soon enough.

On Monday, there was brunch for Chels and Scott and we watched them open presents (for a few hours). Later that evening Rachel and I went out for a fancy dinner to celebrate our third anniversary and then onto the movie theater to see Superman Returns with Aaron, Amber and Adam. I enjoyed the movie, mainly for the costumes and sets, but didn’t think the story was anything too special.

On Tuesday, the Fourth of July, after making an early morning run to the airport to send Chels and Scott off to Orlando we had a little party over at the Lambles to celebrate the holiday, Adam’s graduation and Aaron and Amber’s engagement. The highlight of the evening was definitely watching the Corporate Woods firework show. This was probably the best firework show I have seen. Rachel and I have been going to the Corporate Woods fireworks show together for about the last 10 years. This year’s show was at least 30 minutes long and kept a fair amount of exploding fireworks in the air at the same time. There were a few times throughout the show that I was sure we were seeing the finale. It was loud, bright and long.

Today was just a travel day. We had a 9:40 flight and get (I’m writing this on the Denver to Eugene flight) into Eugene a few minutes after 1:00 pm. Today’s big plans are to check out the progress made on our floors.

That’s it. I know it was boring, but I had to write something in between the pictures.

I was thinking about you two at 3:00pm our time. I am glad you made it safely home. Now time to recover from 8 days of roller coaster fun.

  1. Chipotle truly IS the best restaurant in the world.

  2. Nice post. No embarrassing photos of me.
