Frankenreiter

I went with Cam and Pat to WOW Hall tonight to see Donavon Frankenreiter live. It was a great show. I wasn’t familiar with anything from Donavon until today and only knew that he was the Lost Highway label (which should be enough considering the company he is in).

We got there in time to hear the last few songs from The White Buffalo. That was the biggest mistake of the night. We should have been lined up hours in advance to hear this guy. He was awesome.

A little while later Donavon Frankenreiter came on and put on a fun show. At one point during the show while he was taking requests (unfortunately he didn’t play any classic Timberlake, as requested), someone requested a song that had apparently already been played. There were some laughs, but the highlight of the night was for sure his cover of The Band’s The Weight. He brought a slightly disoriented The White Buffalo back on stage and it was incredible. I realize that liking the cover the best is a little cliché, but it was so much fun.

I will keep my eye on Donavon Frankenreiter (check him out on YouTube) and maybe even see him again if he comes back to Eugene. There is no doubt, however, that I will visit The White Buffalo site on a daily basis to see when he will next return to Eugene (assuming he doesn’t become an overnight sensation and become too big an act for Eugene).

  1. The White Buffalo was truly inspiring, I’ve not recently seen an artist who could rock the second verse with a lit cigarette and a can of PBR in his hand.

I thought smoking in public venues in Eugene was illegal. The laws do not apply to the White Buffalo. He is an endangered species.

Frankenreiter, mmmmm good. Now don’t get mad, but what I heard on Buffalo’s site, was just ok. You have to like that vibrato.
