I had to give Google’s new App Engine a try, so I quickly re-built my dad’s The Bet site. The one page-site was built in Python, because that’s what you have to build all apps in and only took me about an hour to setup, build and deploy. It was super-easy. I’m a little worried about building apps that then tie me to Google’s platform, but not enough to stop me from building these simple apps. I’m sure I’ll keep adding to the app, so keep stopping by.

I assume that an appengine app is an application to an application and an application is something like Excel. I am probably way off here. My only exposure to programming is self taught BASIC and a one semister course in Fortran IV circa 1972. Anyway I checked out The Bet site. Who do you think will win?

So appengine is an entire web application platform. All apps are written in python and run on google web application servers. They have a very nice development environment and their site has lots of good examples. I think they are out of beta accounts so you will have to wait until they open the system up to everyone. I will post more examples over the next couple days. So far python seems like a very nice language.
